The Wall

It looks like Pink Floyd and I...

Have something in common...

I wish I had thought of using his album cover as the template for my block sooner than this morning.

The wall has taken me a bit longer than I expected.

I finished stitching the cinder block pattern using back stitch.  When I finished that, I was a bit worried that the wall would get overshadowed by all the three-dimensional work that I have planned for this block.

That's when I re-stitched the wall with two strands of DMC floss in stem stitch.

Then I added some shading with fabric paint.  I use the same technique as stenciling...very little to no paint on a stiff brush.

At this point, I think the shading makes the piece look dirty and, at times while I was stenciling the paint on the block, I'm thinking..."Geez, I hope I'm not ruining this..."

All in all it's just another brick in the wall.  And I'm moving on.

Happy weekend everyone.

no no no...the shading will be fine, probably perfect, once you start adding your 3-d'ness to it.

Haven't been checking out my friends, lately, so I missed what you are planning for the wall???

It looks good to me....very breeze blockish and wall like:)

My dad always called those blocks "breeze blocks" too but then he was Irish so I guess that's why.

It looks right to me, but of course I don't know what you are planning...!

This is perfect !
Yesterday I received your parcel. I am really delighted by the content, the lovely beads and embellishment, the wonderful fabrics. Thanks a lot for your kindness.
I am currently a bit overwhelmed at work, so I did not take time to answer to your mail. I hope you are fine now.
Have a nice week-end,

I am confident that your wall will stand the test to time once you finish adding all of your magic to it!

If I had to be at a brick wall, I would like it to be this one.

That song brings back memories!

Yes, this type of thing *does* take a lot longer than we think it will. Is it because it's repetitive and seems to make time drag? Or *is* it just genuinely long winded??

It's all about the layers. It will be fine - it's extra dimension.

BTW, love your quote from E.R. today. Made me chuckle. Have a great weekend!

Love it !! Great work once again and always !!!

Regarding "ruining this" - I'd insert a quote about 'art being freedom and adventure' and 'building the piece as a journey' but I don't actually know any quotes like that.

I don't think the shading makes the wall look dirty, just a bit more institutional. It's going to be great. If you decide you don't like part of it, you can always apply a bit of a highlight to some of the shadows.

The shadows add some real depth to the wall, and make it appear realistic...and like blocks. So, I think it will all work out just fine to anchor the rest of the story...very intriguing design!

Love the block design superimposed over the piecing!

Trust is a big part of creating something like that, as is faith.... and for my creations, lots of hope!
The shading will keep it from being "flat" and I think will add interest without being obvious. And if it's grungy, imagine how great the rose will look then... it's the drab, ugly things that make the pretty ones look better. I think this will be the perfect contrast.

your wall looks great to me, I can remember my teacher when I did C & G saying if you think you have made a mistake make a feature of it and all will turn out well, not sure she was always right I seem to remember I had quite a few features on my samples!

I also like the shading. I can't wait to see what's coming. 8-)

OMG ... I LOVE Pink Floyd ... and I have that T-shirt! DH is a PF fenatic ... has everything they ever did ... has concert DVDs ... and we both saw them live years ago (before kids).

I love your beginnings of this Wall ... and am sure I'll enjoy your progress on it.

All in all ... it's just another brick in the Wall!

Turn on the tunes girl ... and let it flow!

Hugs ... Marie

It doesn't look dirty to me. It looks like, well, like a breeze block wall!
