Let the Productive Season Begin

Because of Hurricane Irene, Jack's first day of school is actually today. Finally.

He doesn't look very excited does he?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's 15 and his mother still has to take his Back-to-School photo...

Back to school. Back to routine. Time for a new season. Time for a productive season. Time to think.

If you've been emailing me over the summer, I should finally have time to chat back. Thanks for your patience.

Not only does school start again in the Fall...but all of my stitching groups do as well.

Saturday we had our first Crazy Quilt gathering of Fall. Check out what my friend Carolyn made over her summer break!

Crazy Quilt work by Carolyn Everly

She had a couple of bags in her sewing room that were full of the blocks she had worked on at the CQ Adventure last April. Rather than just put them into her unfinished pile (like I did), she used the materials to create something new.

She took one of the blocks she had prepared for Sharon B's workshop and made a hussif...

With places for her threads, scissors, needles and tweezers...

And with another block, she made an envelope for her charts and papers...

She decorated the front of her zipper envelope with the flowers she had made in Allie Aller's Flower workshop...

And don't they look beautiful on the front of this envelope?!

And both the hussif and the envelope slip inside her purse...

Too cool. Let me tell you...this gal has it all together! Sorry. Carolyn doesn't have a blog :(

As for me, I've finished my extra petals and am working on filling out my lace bouquet on my Breakfast at Tiffany's piece. I'll tell you about that tomorrow.

Does this mean that Jack will be driving himself next year? Great photo even if he isn't smiling.

Wow, what beautiful needlework. So cool to have a group of friends to gather and sew with.

Ahhh, Corey is having a countdown on the dry erase board till he can drive alone. He calls it xxx days til my birthday. Guess he thinks driving will be a re-birth ~lol~..It sure will give Terry and I more time, and far less $$ when I add him to our insurance policy.
There is always a trade-off.

Hope Jack is enjoying his first day back.
xx, Carol

First day of school photos are the best! I love looking back over the years.
What a beautiful bag Carloyn created with her blocks and what a good idea. Often we create those blocks and then wonder what to do with them.

I wish I had been diligent enough to take photos of the first day of school. Jack is growing up so much, so quickly, and so handsomely!

Love the crazy quilt with beaded embellishment. I especially appreciate it because I can't do it, although I love to see it.

Love the way she did the beading on her CQ pieces... excellent!

Your son is very dashing and quite the handsome dresser. Hope he loves school this year.
Carolyn's CQ work is fabulous and what a labor of love to make useful pieces for her art. Really speaks to her dedication of the art of crazy quilting. Fabulous...

Thanks for sharing -- I love first day of school pix! I even like pix of when they get home that afternoon, either all jazzed or all exhausted, lol!

I made DS pose for a "last day of work" pic once. I happened to be visiting him just as he was about to switch jobs/companies. Got a shot of him with his briefcase, going out his apt. door that last morning, just like the good ol' days of school. :)

Hope you have a great school year! Is this jr. year of high school? If so, brace yourself....it's one of the busiest.... And then comes the year of college applications & waiting for acceptance letters! :O

Oh How I tried to get a BTS picture of Becca!!! NO WAY!!!! Bravo to Jack for letting you snap one!!
Carolyn's work is amazing!!! You should not feel bad about not doing much stitching- you were doing ULTRA IMPORTANT Mom and Aunt things all summer long!!!! That time does not come around again!! Bravo to you!!!!!

Thanks for a great post. As adults, sometimes August can turn to September without much fanfare, but those gorgeous photos reminded me of that September sense of possibilities and new beginnings, and yes productivity!!!

Tell Jack he's never too old for a first day of school photo. I took one of myself last week!

I love all the crazy patchwork. I would love to do a crazy quilt project. I have done 2 small blocks but nothing as elaborate as yours. Where do I start??

I see the Ravens flag behind Jack. You all must have been over the moon with the Steelers game! I watched it in an American pub in London. I only wish my Eagles has won last night. I got back just in time to watch the game.
