Planning, Prep and Process

After piecing my Breakfast at Tiffany's block,

I've decided I have some prep work to do before I can start stitching. I need to tissue-transfer the chandelier onto the top left side of the block. I also need to applique Audrey's bust first before I start any seam treatments. I don't intend for the seam treatments to go through either Audrey or the chandelier so I want to make some decisions about how far those motifs will travel in the block.

I think the vintage piece of linen in the lower left looks somewhat like a calling card and I intend to use it as such on my block. Holly's calling card plays somewhat of an important role in the story.

I'm going through my stash to find crystals and beads that I can use for my chandelier. I think I have that part figured out. The only bummer is that I won't let myself bead that motif until close to the very end. Seam treatments first.

I like to take pics of my block in progress and then continue to draw on it, refining my ideas as I go along. After doodling this morning, I think I might like to do a white satin Tiffany bow on the top right hand corner, but I'll have to wait and see.

Now I've got to get about the business of appliqueing Audrey! That's gonna take me a little bit...

You don't know me but I have been following your blog for some time now. I simply love your crazy patches and am looking forward to seeing this last block take shape. I live in Delaware, so the blogs on your swimming across the bay was of real interest. I've been across the Bay Bridge many times.
I blog on Xanga. Keep up your postings, they are such a treat for me. ~Polly~

This is an interesting block; I love the colors! Is that a second block that you've drawn on? Or is it the disappearing stuff? It's hard to save the fun embellishing till last, but boy it sure makes you crazy when you don't.....

Are you sure that block is going to be big enough for all your ideas? :-)

What a great tribute to a wonderful character. Neat, Susan!
And you know, there is a brand new indelible female archetype on the scene whom your sketch reminds me of, with the upswept do and the glasses.... ;-)

Breaakfast at Tiffany's - what a great idea - Holly Golightly would be so proud! I so look forward to seeing all your yummy embellishments.

You had left a comment at one of my BJP posts about dyed beads - and yes, all kinds have dyed ones, even Delicas! My general rule of thumb - any color of bead that is very rich and intense, most likely is dyed, esp. pinks, fuchsias, and purples. If it's a rich teal, for instance, it might actually be sky blue underneath. Sometimes you can tell if you crack one in the jaws of a pair of pliers. The metallic galvanized coating will often rub off, and the inside color of color lined beads often fades in bright light. You can also test beads prior to use - I think Robin has an article about it at her Beadlust website or blog. I used to know of a few websites that listed this information by bead number and manufacturer, but they seem to have removed that these days, not sure why!
Warmest good wishes -
