Spray of Urchins

The sea urchins have been placed...

Nestled amongst some seaweed found...

Getting cozy with the skeletons of sea-worn shells...

And be-friending a family of barnacles that have quite an attachment to a pretty scallop...

Their attempt to take some of the spotlight away from their nine-armed neighbor has begun...

Sea you next time...

I knew I would love it. I grew up going to the sea shore back East...loved finding shells and things....

I think this may be my most favorite of your pieces (so far).
How did you make these little guys? They look similar to a pumpkin pincushion, but I can't figure out how you made the mouth opening.
Gorgeous already, so I'm really looking forward to the finished piece.

I seriously thought the sea urchins were real until I spied very closely and finally saw your beautiful stitching. A perfect vignette of shells and seaweed. Stunning Dear...

Sharon, this is beautiful. I too, am curious as to how you made the urchins and wondering if the sea weed is real. If not, how did you make that?

Heather M. said...

I can't believe I called you Sharon. My apologies. My excuse is that the person who posted before me is Sharon and I must have had that stuck in my head!

Love it, Susan! The way you've included real shells is very effective although one has to look twice to determine what's "real" and what's not. Wonderful stitching...as always! Bravo!

Susan, this is so very beautiful! I too was fooled by the sea urchins. I had to look very closely to see that you had made them! My jaw dropped, and I literally let out a little squeal of delight. Beauty makes me happy. Thank you. Keep it coming!

Already the panel is coming back into balance, and it's a great combination of the found objects and the stitchery.

Just lovely! This spray of urchins is just wonderful. I love all the texture and those stones peeking out of the centers of the urchins is just too sweet. The seaweed is a nice touch as well.
