A Gray Day

It's pouring.

And the skies are gray, gray, gray...

And I know that once this storm system passes, the temperatures will drop, and the trees will start their glorious show.

So, I'm pondering this gray "color"... and enjoying this in-between time.

It's in-between for me too as I end one project and begin another.

I just finished the Laura McCabe bracelet and I'm thrilled with it.

I enjoyed working on someone else's kit...

  • I learned how to make a buttonhole
  • I learned that I love this picot edge on the side of the peyote band
  • I learned that you can be painterly in your selection of bead colors
  • I learned how to make those flowers...which is what I set out to do...But I also learned, that just like those lacy russian leaves, the more you do them, the better you get.
The finished product is absolutely gorgeous and I'm tempted to make it in another colorway...

But it took at least two days longer to finish it than I expected. And I have to move onto other things...

Thanks for sharing my gray (or, if you're in the UK...grey) day.

Love your bracelet Susan! Laura McCabe spent a few days in my attic studio several years ago teaching a group of us to do beading designs on fabric. She's come a long way and deserves it!!

Whoa!! Very elegant!
Don't worry, the sun is on its way. I am sending you some. Can I have some of your rain please? Our fall folliage will not be as vibrant as usually due to a lack of rain. Hi temps will be in the 50s this weekend with frost in the outlaying areas at night (which should be me). Frost the fleas, please Mother Nature!

What's the next project, anyway?

Have a great weekend. Send that Hurricane rain back where it came from.

What I love the best are the second and third photographs where the beads look like raindrops...or is it the raindrops looking like beads?
Very beautiful work with the camera...as well as the beading needle!

That is something I would love to own myself. Will you be making more so that I can buy one?

Susan,
Could you please just stop posting all these beautiful things. First I am buying Stumpwork books. Then I am buying Ribbonwork books. Now you have this beautiful beading. I can't afford to read your blog anymore. You know I am kidding, but really could you post about something ugly?

I made a necklace very similar to this a few years ago. I matched it to a special dress I had. The dress was black with a spray of gray dogwood going down and across the dress. I did the necklace with a black background and the flowers and branched fringe in shades of gray and silver. I loved the contrast. Your bracelet is beautiful too and I love the way the colors in the peacock pearls and seed beads play on each other. You did a lovely job!

Hello Susan,
I followed your link from Rachel's blog. And I have to say - I LOVE your bracelet. Absolutely gorgeous! I agree - sometimes it's nice to do your own thing, and other times it's just good to settle down and follow instructions. Definitely worth it on this occasion!
