Shell-abration

The rain is pouring down outside and I'm inside reflecting on shells, sand and surf.

The Shell Reflections Collection Box has spilled all over the table.

And beads, shells, ribbons and threads have begun their conversation...

I suppose I am their translator...trying to capture their message with my needle...

While reflecting on our ritual of seeking, stooping and collecting shells.

It feels good to be underway.

Hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day...

I loved this talk on TED "If I Should Have a Daughter...", a poetry performance by Sarah Key.  She's quite a talented young woman.  Enjoy.

I work the same way - gathering all the threads, beads, ribbons, etc., that I think might work in my project. Then I choose as I go along, auditioning things as needed. Many never make it onto the embroidery but I like to have them there, just in case.

My Mother's Day was great, but with an interesting twist - a little excitement, a little drama and a little tragedy. I wrote about it here:

Looking so forward to seeing your new creation. I can imagine butterscoth thread weaving through the bleached whites and sand tones. Imagining how you'll make shellscapes. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

Oh, look at all those goodies! I can't wait to see what you do with them.

Gathering the "ingredients" for a piece is such a fun part of the design process, isn't it? It's like at that point, anything is possible!

Wow! What gorgeous colours and things you have collected all together.... I can't wait to see how you "translate" these little pieces into one. It will be stunning that much I do believe! Can't wait!
