Home Coming

Hello. I'm back.

I've spent most of July and August away from home this Summer. And, though I didn't necessarily intend it, I've been away from electronics as well.

Needless to say, we have had many adventures and a ton of fun, but it sure is nice to be back home.

While I was sitting here this morning, I looked over and noticed that this red-tailed hawk had come to visit.

I couldn't believe it. It's not every day that a red tailed hawk pays me a visit. They sometimes perch in the trees in the backyard. And I often hear them call from overhead or see them circling high above.

But I've never had one pull up and take a perch on my back porch only 20 yards or so from where I was sitting. It was a pretty special visit. When I googled the possible meaning of having a red-tailed hawk visit, I found some very interesting reading.

[Note: He and I looked at each other for about five minutes before I decided to commando-crawl to get the point-and-shoot camera and take this picture through the screen. He flew away when he heard the click...]

And so I'm going to sit here today and reflect a bit. Get re-acquainted with Audrey and my Breakfast at Tiffany's piece. Think about what that red hawk's visit might mean.

And I'm going to digest and process all of our adventures from the last month or so. To be honest, I just need time to sit, to stitch and to think.

While I was away, Jack turned 15 years old. And since I've had the luxury of spending so much time with him this Summer, many of my thoughts are about him. How much he's grown and matured.

[And did you notice? It was his 15th birthday and I snapped this picture while he was in gocart #15! I just love that...]

One of our goals for this Summer was to enjoy Jack as much as we could since next Summer it's likely that he'll be working. I think we accomplished that.

There's a lot going on inside his head at the young age of 15, and it's good to be around to hear what he's thinking.

And so...

Hello again everyone. I look forward to catching up...

And I hope you are well.

*Squeals with delight*

Welcome home, I have missed you so much ... but I am really, really pleased that you have had a special time with Jack this summer. I know that was very important to you (and to Jack but he may not appreciate that yet :-) )

How wonderful to have the Red Tail Hawk visit you. Perhaps he missed you, too.

Did I say welcome home :-D

What were some of those meanings of a hawk visit? Jack is a handsome young man and I am glad you were able to enjoy him this summer. They leave us all too fast!

Oh Yes! enjoy your Jack as much as you can!
my Lydia has turned 16 and is in "can I drive?" mode now that she has her permit. all I can say is, EEK!
I spent all this time trying to keep her protected and death free, only to hand her the keys to the family car and teach her how to drive. what was I thinking!!??
will i survive?
only the shadow knows!

Oh how i've missed you.
It's good to hear that you've been having a great summer.
And oh my, how grown up Jack is looking. My oldest (daughter) is getting ready to move out on October 1st, so you probably know how i'm feeling lately.
But i can't complain: *I* am the one who told her she "must"... She told me a while back that her boyfriend wanted to move to California and wanted her to go too. She told me that she "couldn't imagine being so far away from her mom. And she couldn't imagine not being able to hug her mom every day." I got tears in my eyes but i told her emphatically that she MUST go.
That she couldn't NOT go because of me.
And now she's moving out October 1st.
But she's only going 30 miles or so. =-) I can drive over whenever i need one of her wonderful hugs. =-)

Again, Glad to see you back!
=-)

O you knew I'd be excited to see Hawk has found you. How appropriate. Another aspect is the message he wants you to know. Perched near you and a look in the eye is very spiritual. Now you are gifted with a higher level of awareness.

Hawk visits our deck often, or sits on the bird bath. Do you remember my post when I mentioned he traveled next to the car when I was on my way to oral surgery?

Jack is 15. Corey matured so much between 15 and 16. I know your feelings about wanting to spend as much time with him as you can. Corey will be driving alone in November and I wonder how much we'll see him then.

So glad you are home. I have really missed you.
xx, Carol

How come you get a regal hawk visit your garden and I get rotund wood pigeons that land on the bird bath like jumbo jets giving all the other birds heart attacks.Oh well they are all part of the wildlife we love to watch.
Glad you enjoyed your special time with Jack. Savour it and I know there will be more to come.

My day started with a bird sighting also, a pileated woodpecker! It's nice to enjoy moments like that, isn't it. Glad to hear you've had a nice summer and know you'll treasure the memories, especially the ones involving your son. Having just finished 3 crazy weeks with the grandkids, I appreciated your perspective on your busy time with your nieces. Hope you enjoyed the quiet today as well as the time to reflect and stitch. Hugs, and welcome home!
