One Treasure Put to Good Use

We all have them. Little treasures tucked away.

A beautifully-carved shell button. A cabochon with a pansy, painted to perfection. A box of exceptionally-woven ribbons.

And these treasures are stored away waiting for us to find them anew...

And to re-discover their delight.

And try as we might to actually use one of these treasures in our artwork, more often than not we find we cannot do it. We cannot part with it.

It's too precious...too rare...we may never find one again...

But what use is it sitting in a drawer hidden away where we can't enjoy it?

Maybe we should use it on something that we'll see and use every day. Someplace where it will completely perk up the neighborhood...

I've never had so much fun attaching a strap to a camera.

And it was one of the quickest and easiest projects I've ever done, once I got past the decision to actually use the ribbon.

And I'm so glad I did. Now I'll see it every day.

And just in case I'll regret using that ribbon, I took a pretty picture to tuck away for safekeeping.

And to share with all of you.

A simple but extraordinary pleasure.

And speaking of pleasure...I've been away a lot in the past month as you may have guessed. Next week I plan to return to a regular posting, reading and conversing schedule. Until then, I'll remain a bit erratic...albeit with a stunning camera strap...

Go ahead, use a treasure. It wasn't so bad...

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! I love the idea of using the special things on something you use or see a lot! In fact the other day I was going through my lace stash and re-found a long piece of vintage tatted edging and got the idea to drape it round and create a 3 layer long necklace I just knotted the 2 ends together and wore it just like that! So pretty and I got to wear it and enjoy it and others who saw it also enjoyed it!

Hey Stranger!
That is one great looking camera strap. The ribbon looks perfectly happy to be out in the world and out of that drawer.

Aren't we silly. You are right, but usually its a charm or button or bead for me.

Like that birdhouse and bird I used on my last BJP. I am looking all over for whereever I bought it so I can get more!! Just in case...you know. It sits on my keyboard. I thought last night, should I cut it off to use it somewhere else....nope...I LOVE that piece and the charm is what makes it special.

Funny, huh.

Its a gorgeous camera strap!!

What a perfect use of your ribbon - you are passionate about photography so it's only right your camera should be as beautiful as the pictures you take.

You are so right. There should be lots of things in our daily life that are beautiful, special for us, things that bring us joy. I'll think about it. Thanks for sharing.

What a perfect addition to your camera, Susan! It's a stunning length of ribbon and it will enliven your days as well as your camera. Love the other treasures you have in that first picture. I think I need to dig some of my own out and put them to good use!

I too have seen no sense in hiding the pretties away! I made my mom a bookmark with some braid I adored...I recently found it in her bed side drawer, so I took it back! {don't get in a huff, anyone, my mom approved}

That ribbon makes for the nices camera strap I've ever seen. Given how much pleasure your camera gives you, it is only fitting that you gave it a stunning strap.

Hope you enjoy the last week of the summer hols but looking forward to having you back.

Absolutely Gorgeous!!!
Now your camera's gonna be stolen just because it has the prettiest strap EVER, ANYWHERE!
(Good thoughts being sent so that doesn't really happen. But i'm totally jealous of that b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l strap!)
=-)

I LOVE that camera strap. And I have some of that same ribbon (different colorway, I believe). It’s too wide for my camera strap, but I’m sure I can find something to use it on. Good for you for spurring us on! Hugs, Cathy

That's quite a treasure chest of ribbon you have there. I agree, it's nice to put these beauties to use where you can enjoy them. Plus, you must have the snazziest camera strap in town. All the other photographers will be jealous.

This is wonderful, have you got any ideas about any other stashed treasures, fabric, threads, ribbons, beads? I have recently had more stuff added to my stash (auntie died bless her) and left me all her things. I think I could open a shop.

Your posts give me so many ideas...thank you. Sonja

Gorgeous ribbon! I have been taking that attitude lately...what is the point of having something beautiful if you never get to SEE it? So I am actually using things that I have considered "family heirlooms," after all, my ancestors wanted us to use these treasures, that is why they passed them on!

Brilliant. I'll have to check my own stash for something suitable.
