I love big pictures and so, when I first started blogging, I went off reading all of the blogging hints to increase my picture sizes in Blogger.
Many of you have asked me how I do this so I thought I would share the one technique I remember from my days of searching and figuring it out. I know there are many other better tips and techniques out there for managing your photos so this is definitely not the only way....it just happens to be the one I use.
OK. First I upload my pic...the pic size I typically use from my camera is 8X11 or 8x12 -- large and centered:
Now, I proceed to the "Edit Html" tab which is behind your "Compose" tab---
When you are looking at the Edit Html page, you'll see this language at the very top of your post where you just uploaded your pic...OK. Now I delete width: 266px; height: 400px; and I change the s400 number to s800 -- which then doubles my picture to this...
and the Html now looks like this...If your pics are being cropped on the right side after you've made this step, you may need to change the html language in your blog template to increase the pixel width of the body of your posts...but that is getting way to technical for me and I can't really help you with that.
I am not an expert on this topic and there is plenty of information freely available if you google what you're looking for...it does take time to figure it out...
For those who know what I'm talking about, my header wrapper is 1060 px; my outer-wrapper is 1060 px; my main wrapper is 810 px and my sidebar wrapper is 220 px...
But I'm not telling you my weight....
I hope this helps some of you who have asked...

Several months ago I set out to find how to make my blog template wider because I like the way yours looks. It took some surfing but I found it and I love the way it turned out. What an education attempting this kind of change gives you!
I love that your pics are big AND you can still click on them to make them bigger yet!
You just know so much about some stuff! and a WHOLE LOT about other stuff!!
Thanks for sharing this with us Susan.
XX, Carol
Thanks, Susan. And just today I noticed you don't have anything IN the sidebars. Or is that just my computer?
I'm going to bookmark this post. Look for bigger pictures on my blog in the future. I may even fix my header. Bless you!
I've not asked...but I'm soooooo thankful, Sara!
whenever I saw those pictures I always was curious
Thank you so much!
Susan, HEAPS of thanks for posting this information! I just recently created my 1st blog (mainly for the upcoming 2010 BJP) and was trying desperately to figure out how to make my first photo appear larger...and I didn't have a clue how to do it. I thought about asking you (cuz I've been following - and enjoying - your bloggy big pictures for ages) but since I rarely leave a comment here, I thought it rude to leave a comment when I wanted something from you...:>}} I think you know what I mean.
So I was ELATED to read this post, to say the least! Are you psychic??????? I can't wait to try the HTML thing on my next post!
Will you be joining the BJP again next year? Sure hope so!!
Thanks again,
Christi C.
or you can use livewriter and do all sorts of cool things, like add tables to put pix in, drop shadows, etc. i just converted and i looooove it!
I never even noticed! I just accept what's in front of my eyes. Wow. I have to try this myself. Thanks for the info.
Wow....you are amazing!!
Oh no...you helped create a monster! I just tried this on my blog and it worked!! Thank you so much!!!!!
now I stay tuned!
Thank you - that really helped, do you know if there is any way to still make them bigger - but not THAT big? I tried writing s600 instead - but that doesn't help:-)I don't know ANYTHING about HTML...
Thanks for the information. Just wondering if you knew how to keep images of a high-quality when resizing them as mine seem to get blurry. :-)
Hi Susan: I bookmarked this post because I've always wanted to make photos larger than the predetermined sizes Blogger gives.
A couple of other photo-related things I've wanted to do:
• Specify one particular photo to be the preview photo in a blog post that has many photos;
• And include a photo as the link rather than have it directly in the post.
Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
