The number 11 is an important number in my life. So the fact that today is 11/11 portends good fortune and is particularly lucky.
Today is also my husband's and my 13th Wedding Anniversary. It was a tough year for our family with the passing of my Mom and I've never felt more loved and supported than by my husband when my mother was dying. I am so very lucky to have him. My mother loved my husband dearly and never failed to remind me of how blessed I was to have married him.
In Victorian crazy quilts, spiders and spider webs were considered symbols of good luck. I have been preparing two crazy quilt Christmas crackers to send off to two lovely ladies as part of a swap hosted by Crazy Quilt International. Today, I was making up lucky spider kits to place inside their Christmas crackers.
As you know, there are many ways of stitching and beading a spider...but I happen to be very fond of this style which uses a vintage swarovski beadball as the abdomen and a vintage nailhead as the head. I treasure these little beadballs since they are not very easy to find anymore.
In honor of this lucky day, I'd love to send one of these little kits out to one of you as a way of spreading good luck in the world. There are enough supplies in this little kit to make two spiders, a male and a female. Hopefully, they will multiply and the good luck will grow exponentially!
Just leave a comment on this post between now and Friday and I'll have Jack pick a winner and post it on Saturday. Don't forget to include an email address so I can contact you if you're the lucky winner!
Have a lucky lucky day!

Those spiders are cute, but don't include me in the contest - I don't quilt or bead and wouldn't know what to do with them. :) I just wanted to wish you a Happy Anniversary!
Your spiders are so lovely (if that can be said of spiders!). Let's just say Arachnia would be proud! Please enter my name into your contest. I was thinking of you today, 11-11. My meaningful day was 11-08 (1108). Hugs, Cathy
Happy Anniversary, Susan! And may you enjoy many, many more.
Those are some spiders....we have huge real ones like that here in the fall, but they don't sparkle! That's a really pretty piece of CQ in your photos. Is it more than a block?
Blessings to the two of you....

Happy Anniversary. We celebrated 37 this year and it seems like we were married just a few years ago. Guess we are having fun, cause time is flying!
Your crazy quilt work is so so beautiful. I have never seen the beads the spiders are made of. Where in the world do you find them? I'd love a kit.
Love your work and your blog is awesome! I have yet to make a spider on my work but would love to try with one of your kits. Thanks, Debbie (Maine)

Hapy Anniversery to you and your husband and many more to come.
I have yet to put a spider on one of my cq projects but should one of these days. When we first bought our Florida home for the winter months I went to a gals home for our sewing group meeting and looked up at the ceiling of her front door and there wewre 2 spiders that had to be 6-8 inches across each. I thought they were fake for Halloween and asked her how she got them up there. She said they were real and wasn't too worried about them. She is a Floridian for sure.
I found your site thru Allie and sure do enjoy it.
I promise if I win to put a spider (small size) on my next cq.
Hugs

Am I too late to try for the spider?? I hope not! They are amazing as well as your art! I will have to give the fingerless gloves a try too.
OMG, those are the cutest spiders! Makes me want to include one for my Nov BJP! Fab work, btw. Love everything. :-)
