What's on my Ipod? Books, of course!

After reading this post on Violette Severin's blog Hand Quilting, I went to this site and signed up for the 1% Well-Read Challenge.

The goal of this challenge is to read 10 books in 10 months from the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list. For you non-math people, 10 out of 1001 is approximately 1%, hence the title. The challenge will run from May 1, 2008 through February 28, 2009.

I also followed the link to this spreadsheet which lists the 1001 Books You Should Read Before You Die -- seems like I'm only 5% well-read so far! Even if I don't agree with the list, it forces me to pick up books I would not have known about...

While I'm stitching, I listen to books on my Ipod which I've downloaded from Audible.

Here's my list of 10:
1. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton
2. City of God by E.L.Doctorow
3. Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres
4. Dracula by Bram Stoker
5. Pale View of the Hills by Kazuo Ishiguro
6. A Bend in the River by V.S.Naipaul
7. Breakfast at Tiffany's by Truman Capote
8. Possession by A.S.Byatt
9. The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
10.Black Dahlia by Jalmes Ellroy

I'll post a review of the books as I read them. This beauty is up first...

That's quite a list you have there. I'm not making a commitment because I read nearly every day, so at least I'm reading something. LOL.

But I did go to the spreadsheet to look. It's a great resource and surprisingly, I've read LOTS, and LOTS of these books.

Good luck with the challenge.

:) I arrived here via Violette's blog. I'm not doing the challenge (too many reading challenges to keep up with), but I hope you enjoy Age of Innocence! It remains a favorite.

I'm also a great fan of Stoker's Dracula, Possession, and Breakfast at Tiffany's. The others on your list are books I hope to get around to, but to which I'm not yet willing to commit.

I have previously read 7 that are on your list. Can't wait to read your reviews.

OK, if I have done everything correctly, I believe that I am downloading Age of Innocence right now into my iPod. I am always unsure until I see something show on the screen. . .

I am being a bit of a copycat since I didn't really know where to get started with that huge list. I'll give this one a try. I need to think about something other than plans for another project while I am stitching!
