Crabs and Beer

Continuing to introduce myself, here is the third pic in the SPC for May.

My hands and my DH's hands are picking through a pile of steamed crabs caught in Assawoman Bay in Ocean City, Maryland. This is one of our favorite things to do -- catch crabs, steam them, eat them and drink beer. Usually we eat at a picnic table with paper underneath to capture the shells, paper towels and water to wash with, and ice cold beer in a cooler.

My favorite time of day at the beach is the hour before sunset but I am often there alone since neither my son nor my husband love the beach as much as I do. On this day, my DH surprised me with this unusual "picnic" on the beach. When he opened the cooler (I was expecting sunset cocktails), I was shocked to see that the cooler was full of crabs! I was convinced it was a bad idea -- too messy, how would we keep the sand from getting in the crabs, what about knives, knockers? And, I'm sorry to admit that, rather than embracing him and telling him he did a good job, I wrinkled my nose at the idea and told him I didn't think it would work. But, lo and behold, engineer-husband had figured out all of the details and the "picnic" was wonderful!

"Crabs on the beach" is now a family ritual and I have to admit that I was wrong... That's becoming easier as I get older...it's also making for a better marriage.
