Old Ladies, Hearts and Roses

When I was leafing through the paper this weekend, two things caught my eye.

First was this ad showing tiara-wearing Italian grandmothers holding handbags from the Spring 2015 Collection of Dolce & Gabbana...

Aren't those ladies wonderful??

A few pages later, this pic of a window on Fifth Ave in NYC also caught my eye...

Beautiful!  It too was Dolce & Gabbana.  Isn't that coat gorgeous?

The embroidery looks machine-done but ooooohh!

Both pics sent me scurrying to look at their Spring collection...

Where I found tons of Spanish-inspired looks covered in roses...

Heart milagros were emblazoned on everything from jackets and dresses...

To handbags...

I don't know about you but it made me want to start embroidering a milagro heart inspired by these beautiful images.

Unlike these gals, my little old Mrs. Rose is going to have to wait a bit for me to finish her roses...

Luckily, she has the heart for it...

Here's to hearts, roses and remembering our grandmothers today!

  1. My Oma has been gone nearly 40 years but I still think about her a lot. She was inspirational. Thank for your post and for my labels. Have a great day

  2. Fun post, Susan. I think I am now one of those Grandmas as I'm Oma to 5, but I still remember our Gammy who lived to be 102. She's my inspiration.

  4. Fabulous collection! I love that they go back to basics and tradition when it comes to classic Italian lace.

  9. My grandmother is my hero. She won many blue ribbons for her handwork, and when you showed her something you had made the first thing she did was turn it over and check the back. Everything I do, I still think "Would Grandma approve?"

  10. love it!! It would be awesome if they used older ladies in fashion magazines. My grandmother was a fashion statement, she made her own clothes and always wore hats. When she was 85 she dressed up with a hat to go out to dinner, but she had her sweatpants underneath. lol What a memory

  11. Yes, it definitely makes me want to embroider, or bead, a milagro heart! I bet they had a ball at the photo shoot :-) I absolutely adored my grand mother and still miss her but love remembering her :-)

  14. Love the hearts, roses and elaborate embroidery, but am uneasy about the use of milagros in that way. It seems disrespectful... To know for what purpose what milagros are intended check here:
