Jeweled Wings

At last!

The wings for the butterfly "brooch"on my Breakfast at Tiffany's piece are finally beaded and cut out...

I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. The only thing I wish I could change is the outline color. I wish the grey were a few shades lighter. I haven't put it on the block yet...and I'm a bit concerned that the outline may be too stark.

Nothing to be done now, my friends, for I am not re-beading those four wings.

It would...all on its own though...make an absolutely beautiful brooch.

Next up is figuring out the antennae, eyes, thorax and abdomen, then attaching it all to the block. And for those wondering the size, the butterfly with both sets of wings is 2.25" tall...sorry I keep forgetting to put something in the photos that help you to appreciate the scale. Next time.

Thanks for checking on my progress...and have a beautiful day wherever you are.

  2. I think they are gorgeous! Wowza!! If the edges are too dark...you could always paint the edge...and perhaps add some fairy dust glitter to the edge? Just a thought.
Can't wait to see how they look on the block...makes me all tingly just anticipating how gorgeous this project will be when completed!

  9. Absolutely gorgeous! I'm so impressed.

I could see several of those butterflies on an elegant satin evening gown. It would be quite a project, but absolutely stunning. :)

  17. Beautiful!

    P.S.
If the outside looks too stark when placed on the block, do you have room to overlay the outer stitching/edging with another thread? If not, it will look beautiful just the way it is! :-)

    Oh Susan,

This is absolutely beautiful! Don't worry about the outer gray line. Look at it this way - it does a pretty job of defining the wings. I suspect once it's placed on the block with all the other elements, you may not even see it. And if it still bothers you once it's on the block, two more small areas using the same gray thread in a triangular composition will make it look more purposeful as well as leading your eye to flow through the whole piece. *maybe* ;)

*Sigh*. It's so lovely. Great job, lady!

  27. I realize my monitor may not be showing true to life color but I really think the dark gray is perfect. It defines the edges of the butterfly and I think it looks like old silver. Truly amazing work! Please, please....NO GLITTER! It would take away from the perfect design of the crystals in the wings. Glitter also has a way of finding itself all over everything and you certainly do not want that. Simple, not overly glitzy. This is perfect glitzy. This is Tiffany! Elegant but full of "diamonds". I cannot wait to see the finished piece. I don't know how you make one perfect piece after another. Have you thought of submitting it to Winterthur? Pamela (Tucson, AZ)

  28. Absolutely STUNNING!

I think the edge is perfection and defines the edges of the wings beautifully. It also shows off the pink in the diamonds.
