It's a Wrap

While I was in Florida visiting my Dad, I took a bracelet class at the local bead shop.

The class was to make this Chan Luu-style wrap bracelet.

Well, evidently I showed up late to the wrap bracelet party since they've been out for a couple of years but...

I really love it. I used an antique steel cut brass button as the closure and I liked the 5 wrap design. To make 5 wraps, I had to use 7 ft. of leather cording...

It ended up being over one yard of beaded bracelet so it took a few days to make but now I'm hooked.

I'm inspired by this Chan Luu design next...

I can see weaving in all kinds of fabrics, beads, buttons etc...

The actual making of the bracelet is really simple so I thought it might be a good project for the nieces this Summer.

If you google "How to make Chan Luu bracelet", you'll find lots of tutorials.

And if you have no desire to make one yourself but want to look at some options to buy...you can check out the official Chan Luu website where the bracelets sell for $150 and up! Or check out sellers such Mad River Designs which offer beautiful and cheaper versions...

Have a great day!

  4. I love it!! You did such a beautiful job!
How i wish you lived just down the street and could help me out with the beaded cuff i'm trying to put together [whine]. I have all the beading done, but now i'm worrying over the mechanics of putting it together. Any suggestions for the "innards"? I originally thought i'd use metal (like a folded up coke can), but in retrospect, it really makes too much noise, and a friend thinks it'll restrict my movement too much...
    Oh well.
    I LOVE *your* bracelet, though!

  6. I think I saw this made with glass beads. It didn't impress me much, but I really like the leather. And I REALLY like your next design to try. Very cool. Yep, I can see a Bracelet Revolution coming up!!

  8. I haven't heard of these braclets before but they are really cute and look like fun to make and wear. I think your nieces will love it. I like the rose gold braclet also. Did you learn how to add the beads to the outer edge or do you have to figure that out?
