Summer Stripes...Summer Colors...

Sometimes it feels like this Summer is just slip-sliding away...

We've just gotten home from our vacation having had a great time at the beach with our family...Well, maybe not just our family...

We picked up a few other kids on the beach who joined in the fun. Don't ask me who these boys are in this picture, I have no idea...

And this is the project I've had on my needles this Summer. It's the Rainbow Shawl from Vogue Knitting Spring/Summer 2007 -- and yes, I've been knitting it since then...

It's knit from the neck down and the original was knit in cashmere! Needless to say, I didn't have the $500 to knit it in cashmere, so I'm doing mine in Tahki Cotton Classics...

Currently, I'm knitting the light yellow stripe which has followed gold. One row now takes me about 45 minutes or so and I am really getting tired of looking at yellow...

The next color up is green and I cannot wait to get to green!!

As I was loading up all the pictures from the weekend, I was struck with the similarities between the colors in my beach pictures...

and the stripes and colors in my rainbow shawl...

And, amidst all this color, we were fortunate to have my MIL come up from Texas to spend the week with us. Her favorite color is blue.

I won't get to the blue stripe on my shawl until after I finish green...

And green is Jack's favorite color...

And, Jack turned 13 this past week. So all the cousins came together to celebrate the only teenager in the family.

It will take me a few days to catch up on emails and blog reading so bear with me. I can't wait to see what you've been up to...

Next post is for Charm School where tassels reign supreme this week. TTFN.

  4. Such great pictures, Susan! But with such beautiful models, how could you go wrong?! I'm so glad you had a good time and had sun, saw colors and had lots of laugh time! Your knitting is beautiful. I've come to the conclusion that I can't knit. It's beyond me! But that's okay...I'll knit along with you.

  6. Ah, summer! Your photos show everything I love about it. Shawls are sneaky, aren't they? They start small and end up huge. Yours is going to be wonderful though. I LOVE Tahki cotton, the color choices and the sheen of the yarn. Great substitution....I'd be afraid to wear let alone knit on $500 of any kind of yarn! Welcome home. Can't wait to see the tassels!

What beautiful colors! Takhi Cotton feels great, doesn't it? Your photographs really speak "summer".

    Thanks for sharing! :)

  8. The colors really do pop and line up now that you mention it.
I have the knitting needles but I've yet to acquire the knitting vibe. I'll have to stick with crochet.
Another fabulous trip. Thanks for letting me tag along. You look like you're having a ball on that raft.

  10. I can't believe just Jack with all those female cousins. Think of all the future girlfriends of the cousins. You will have to send him to a monastery.

You all look like you are having a wonderful time. The child's bathing pool at the beach is a great idea for a little one. Never would have thought of that.
I like your shawl but I can see where it would get boring. I used to knit all the time and design my own patterns on special graph paper. Once into quilting all the rest fell away. I started knitting hats for cancer last winter and will do that again this winter. Glad to have you back. You were missed even though I like Miss Liberty.

  12. Welcome home, dear Susan!!!

I'm in love with your beach pictures - stripes, BRIGHT COLORS, splish-splash, giggle-laugh, kids in heaven and you too it seems. OMG, I went there too as I scrolled through your post. Thank you!

I'm behind too, although my excuses are different - two sets of house guests and our County Fair. Email up the wazoo... yours too... I will be writing to you about magic sprinkles soon.

    Love, R

Purely by chance I recently came across the page of your blog with the liberty bead project and I was totally wowed. I continued to read and very much enjoyed reading about your family, the book recommendations; your needlework and the links to other websites. I'll keep reading and thanks for sharing.

I know what you mean about the poncho and having had enough of the yellow. I made a xmas tree skirt all done in white crochet cotton a few years ago that increased in size like the poncho. It got so beyond boring it wasn't funny. But, eventually, I finished it. Thanks again!

  15. So nice to have you back. Everything is going along, but I love the shawl. I hate when the rows get that long. And I have to have a pattern or something that changes frequently (such as color!) or I freak and stop. I think it is amazing you are doing this when it takes so long and it looks like rainbow sherbert to me.

It's always a happy day when I see that you've stopped by and left a note. Thanks for taking the time to send me your beautiful thoughts. I try to comment back when life isn't too hectic and when Blogger has your email.

Have a wonder-filled life!
