The Snow Experiment...

...didn't work.

Sorry, I didn't take a picture.

But see the big wad of nips in the upper part of the picture below?

Well, after I spritzed them with textile medium and coated them in glitter, the result looked like someone who had sprayed their hair with hairspray and then taken a shower with drywall dust.

It was not pretty.

So you're not going to believe what I've decided to do.

I'm afraid that now you really will know I have a screw loose somewhere.

I've decided that I'm going to make each snowball...umm...individually.

You see...I like the fiber nature of the felt...

It's better "snow" than just a bead...it's soft.

But it lacks the sparkle of snow...so...

I've cut away the offending flyaway fibers around each little round nip of felt...

And I'm dipping them each in a bath of textile medium...

And then rolling them each in glitter...

And setting them aside to dry...

The snowballs are having the time of their lives.

And I actually don't mind it either...but I think I'll save this activity for when I'm watching TV.

At this rate, I should be done January's block in July.

Luckily, I think the snow will be sewn on as one of the last steps so I'm off to work on the rest of the block...

I've also got to cut strips of felt fibers to place on the branches of the tree...

And they still need to be dipped and glittered.

It sounds kind of fun, doesn't it?

Instead of going to a tanning booth or the hair salon...we could all just go get Dipped and Glittered...

See you next time...

  2. I wondered if you would have to glitz them individually. The tree snow is lovely too. Such perfection.

How many blocks will you be doing this year? Sorry. Specially since mine are sitting there, waiting for my machine to be set up again.

Does it really matter if the snow takes a lot of time? At the end you (and your audience) will be so pleased with the result.

  11. The little snow balls are awesome, and I think they'll be worth the extra work.

I'd definitely prefer being glittered to getting a tan! I think you might have found the Next Big Thing. ;)

  13. You are so funny! To be dipped and glittered would be so much fun for all of us who love bling!

Even though it did not work the first time, you were able to rescue the snow balls and move forward! What a great learning curve and thank you for sharing even the fail with us. I have tucked this away for future use.

I cannot wait to see the finished block when it all comes together.

  17. You are too funny. I am so ready to be dipped and glittered. That should cover lots of my flaws...kind of like bondo on a car body or texture on drywall.
Your little snowballs are beautiful. You always go the extra mile and you really do it right. The only way to do something. Glitter Sparkles of Bliss...

  19. It is this attention to detail that makes your work so beautiful! I think the snow is looking great! (I never even would have thought of the glitter.)

Your not tanning comment made me wonder if cosmetic spray-on glitter would work.

  24. Good morning. I have been reading your blog for about a year now. I'm primarily a needlepointer but I think you've inspired me to try my hand at crazy quilting. How does one get started? Where did you learn all the beading techniques? I was stunned by the butterfly you created for the Audry block. It is a masterpiece! I look forward to your posts each and every morning. I love you commentary. I just love everything about your blog! ~Carol

  28. Oh I want to be dipped and glittered!
My dad says I'm always covered in sparkles anyway. He once complained his undies came out sparkly because they were washed with something of mine. LOL

  30. Love your take on the snow experiment, you are hilarious. May I ask what kind of felt you used? Mine felt yardage is flat and cannot be rolled into a ball. I have an idea for your rolled buds, would love it if you share the source.
